SETS CREATED BY: VLADIMIR KOVALCHUK
WITH: THE MOSCOW “SCHOOL OF DRAMATIC ART”
The performance presented in the Moscow “School of Dramatic Art” theatre in 1999, the bicentenary of the birth of Alexander Pushkin sums up the search for directions in recent years by Anatolij Vasilijev, blending the distinctive “Vasilyevan” ritual theatre speech technique and the music structure and choreography characteristic of mystery plays into a refined polyphonic stage composition. In the performance the poetry of Pushkin, the music of Vladimir Martinov and the figures of Mozart and Salieri form a unity which, together with the spectacular visual impact of the scenery and costumes, make the audience participants in a special, almost esoteric initiation.
